Cricket
match between India and Pakistan presented thrilling close encounters right
from its inception after both nations independence in 1947. The editor would
like to narrate a particular cricket match which took place in mid 1980s in
Sharjah. It was a final match of a particular tournament to which both the
cricketing powerhouses qualified. India was led by Mr. Kapil Dev and Pakistan
by Mr. Imran Khan. Final match had its share of ups and down and till the end
winner was not predictable. Match went to the wire, with four runs needed to
win from the last ball. Javed miandad of Pakistan was at the crease. Chetan
Sharma of india was with the ball. Mr.
Dev sent all his fielders to the boundary line (except the wicket
keeper). Mr. Sharma chose to bowl a Yorker which was converted into an
half-volley by Miandad who rocketed the ball out of the boundary line for a
six. This brought a stunning win for Pakistan over india in that match. This
incident proved nerves of steel characteristics of Javed Miandad.
